All other procedures, restrictions, and exceptions are explained below.

General: All parents or guardians who participate in the league agree to and must sign the Breakaway Hoops, LLC Waiver.

Warm up: Each team will receive 5:00 minutes of warm-up before each game and two minutes break during half (depending on time).

Clock: Games are played in FOUR 8-MINUTE QUARTERS with running time. The clock will start at the jump ball or when a player begins to shoot pre-game technical foul shots. Technical fouls assessed prior to the start of a game will not result in loss of possession of the ball. Every game will begin with a jump ball. The clock will stop during the last minute of the first, second, and third quarters. The clock will stop the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter..

Pressing: Pressing allowed in the 6-9 year old division during second half of game play.

Time-outs: Each team will receive three thirty-second (30) time-outs each half (which do not carry over) during regulation play and one (1) 30-second-out during overtime and sudden death play. If play is interrupted by an injury to a player or the loss of a contact lens, the referee may, in his discretion, stop the clock but in that event shall assess a time-out to the team responsible for the delay in play.

Overtime: In the event of a tie at the end of the second half, an overtime period of three minutes shall be played with stop-time occurring in the last minute of play. If, at the end of the overtime period, the score is still tied, the first team to score (1) point or greater shall be awarded the victory (sudden death). During playoff games there will not be Sudden death.

Rosters: A team may start and finish a game with four (4) players. If a team has four (4) players at the scheduled start time, they must start the game at the scheduled start time, a 5th player can be added when he arrives. It is highly suggested player arrive at least thirty (30) minutes prior to their scheduled game.

If a team does not have minimum of four (4) players at the scheduled start time, they will be afforded a fifthteen (15) minute grace period. After the fifthteen (15) minute grace period it will be considered a forfetied game for the team without the minimum number of players. Two or more forfeits by a team will make them ineligible for the playoffs.

Mercy Rule: In respect to everyone involved, if there is a 20 point (or greater) margin with less than 2 minutes left in the game, the game will be stopped.

Fouls: Each participating player receives a maximum of five (5) personal fouls. A player shall be disqualified upon committing his sixth foul of any type (including technical fouls), or his second technical foul.  Each participating team is allowed seven (7) team fouls before 1-AND-1 bonus against the offended team. At the ten (10) team fouls will result in a double bonus where the offended player shoots two (2) free throws attempts. Technical fouls count has personal fouls and will result in two (2) free throws and possession of the ball.

Any flagrant (discretion of officials), unsportsmanlike foul shall result in two free throws, automatic ejection and loss of possession. A player disqualified as a result of unsportsmanlike conduct shall promptly leave the vicinity of the gymnasium. His failure to do so shall result in automatic forfeiture by his team, in addition to disciplinary against player and / or his team (at the discretion of the Commissioner).

The use of profanity, vulgarity, taunting and verbal abuse of players and officials will not be tolerated at Breakaway Hoops. Any such incidents will be penalized with a technical foul.  Fighting will absolutely not be tolerated. Any player who throws a punch in aggression on in defense will be ejected for the league for on (1) season, including playoffs. It will be the official(s) discretion to end the game if any player is in danger or teams are playing overly aggressive.

Any player not wearing official Breakaway Hoops jersey or appropriate matching and non-repeating number t-shirt at the opening tip-off will be issued a “technical foul”. The Commissioner can make an exception on a season-by– season basis.
