The 3-on-3 youth half court league takes place during the Fall, Winter, and Spring months. 

Each Season is 1 weekend of orientation + 7 weekends = 8 Weekends

Teams are grouped according to ability and age division (NIT, 6-9, NCAA,10-12, NBA 13-15). 

Boys and girls ages 6-15 are eligible to participate in the league. Participants are placed on teams randomly upon registration. If you would like to be placed on a team with a teammate or sibling email us at

The league follows middle school modified rules.

Each team will have a maximum of 5 players per team.


All other procedures, restrictions, and exceptions are explained below:

Clock: Games are played in 2 (30-MINUTE QUARTERS) with running time. Players are substituted every 10-minutes.

Time-outs: Each team will receive three  thirty-second (30) time-outs each 30-minute segments. If play is interrupted by an injury to a player or the loss of a contact lens, the referee may, in his discretion, stop the clock but in that event shall assess a time-out to the team responsible for the delay in play.

Overtime: In the event of a tie at the end of the 20 minutes, the first team to score will win the particular game. Possession is given to the opposite team of a jump ball.

Rosters: A team consist of a total of 5 players

Mercy Rule: In respect to everyone involved, if there is a 20 point (or greater) margin with less than 2 minutes left in the game, the game will be stopped.

Fouls: Any flagrant (discretion of officials), unsportsmanlike foul shall result in a free throws, automatic ejection and loss of possession. A player disqualified as a result of unsportsmanlike conduct shall promptly leave the vicinity of the gymnasium. His failure to do so shall result in automatic forfeiture by his team, in addition to disciplinary against player and / or his team (at the discretion of the Commissioner).

The use of profanity, vulgarity, taunting and verbal abuse of players and officials will not be tolerated at Breakaway Hoops. Any such incidents will be penalized with a technical foul. Fighting will absolutely not be tolerated. Any player who throws a punch in aggression on in defense will be ejected for the league for on (1) season, including playoffs. It will be the official(s) discretion to end the game if any player is in danger or teams are playing overly aggressive.

Dress Code: No jewelry is permitted to be worn during the game. Any jewelry which cannot be removed will be reviewed by the referee(s) and the referee(s) will decide if the player can play in the game.

Participants must wear Breakaway Hoops reversible jerseys. Any player not wearing official Breakaway Hoops jersey or appropriate matching and non-repeating number t-shirt at the opening tip-off will be issued a technical foul. The Commissioner can make an exception on a season-by season basis.

Championship Rules & Regulations: Standings are based on the number of total teams. All game rules during the regular season apply for playoffs.
Teams will be seeded by their overall regular season record. Tie-breakers are as follows:
Head-to-Head Record: Tie goes to the team who has won more H2H match-ups
Points scored
Points allowed (least)

Breakaway Hoops has the right to add, delete or amend the rules and regulations at any time for the betterment of the program.

Breakaway Hoops reversible jerseys are given to each new participant prior to the first assigned games.

Orientation: Takes place on the fist day of league play, 15 minutes prior to start time.

What to Bring: Functional Basketball Sneakers, Basketball Shorts, Water Bottle, Extra T-Shirt.

*Non basketball glasses are not to be worn at any point on the basketball court.*

School League

In order to participate in the school league, you must be registered by your  school coach/ administrator. 

School League Rules: 

Two (2) 16-minute halves running time (CLOCK RUNS ON FOUL LINE)

  1. 1-minute stop time at the end of the first- and 2-minute stop time at the end of the second half
  2. After 5 team fouls of each half begins the 1 and 1 bonus
  3. After 7 team fouls of each half begins the 2 shot double bonus
  4. Clock doesn’t stop during free throws
  5.  5 personnel fouls will result in a player fouling out of the game
  6.  All tech fouls will count as a personal foul

Game Time

  1.  Each team must arrive a ½ hour before the scheduled game time.
  2.  Each team much be dressed 15 minutes before scheduled game time
  3.  Players much check in at the scorer’s table before each game
  4.  Each team will be given 5 times-outs (3 full) & (2 30-second) per game
  5.  Half time is 3 minutes before the game whistle blows.
  6.  There is a 15-minute grace period before forfeit takes place.
  7.  A team can be given 5 extra minutes if the opposing team agrees to a game with two 13- minute halves.


  1.  Each player is allowed 5 fouls
  2.  All breaks-away fouls are two-shots and the ball
  3.  If a team has 5 eligible players left and the fifth player receives 5 fouls the opponent will receive 2 shots and the ball every time that player commits a foul
  4.  No player is allowed to argue a foul with a referee, the referee can give a two shot technical at his discretion
  5.  All flagrant fouls are 2 shots and the ball
  6.  All flagrant fouls are considered technical fouls
  7. 2 technical fouls results in automatic ejection even if it is the 5th and last eligible player (ejection can be 1 tech and 1 flagrant)
  8.  Any action that seems harmful to the league and other players will be taken to the commissioner for possible multi-game suspension or expulsion from the league
  9.  Technical fouls can be given to players that are not in the game

 Other Penalties

  1.  5 second possession rule
  2.  Line infractions
  3.  10 seconds to reach half-court


  1.  Game starts on a jump ball, alternate possession after that


  1.  No taunting or staring down opponents (tech) Overtime period

          Overtime period

  1. The first overtime session is 3 minutes (1 extra time-out) if a team has time-out left from regulation, they may use those time-outs during the first
  2.  The second and third O.T is 2 minutes (1 time-outs)
  3.  Game ends in a tie after the 3rd overtime unless it’s the playoff

         Uniform Code

  1. All teams must have matching top and bottom uniforms. (SHORTS AND JERSEY MUST BE UNIFORMED).
  2.  Numbers must be visible on the back of the jersey with a minimum of 6 inches digits
  3. No jewelry (including but not limited to earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc)
